Aren't there always delays?

Last week we had a little delay in progress. Clay was sick and I needed his help so I could get the cement board on the bathroom floor. This meant I couldn't start tiling the floor until this past weekend. While Clay was working in the kitchen getting the extra cabinets we needed built, I worked on the bathroom floor.

The kitchen is turning out amazing. I'm really excited to see how it all ends up, once all the finishing details are in place.

Every day we get a little closer to being done. This weekend it's all in Clay's hands, since I will be heading to Florida for a few days. I was hoping to have the bathroom floor done, so we could a toilet installed and finally have a somewhat functioning bathroom. That's right in the year we've been working on the house we have never had any form of functioning bathroom. It's all coming together now though. Clay actually found a recessed trash can for the bathroom today, to help keep doggie noses out of the garbage. It will be set into the wall, so it will also be nice to keep things like that off the floor. We have been trying to find unique storage solutions throughout our house to make the best use of small spaces.

Working with a pattern this small could have turned out poorly, but so far so good.
We are hoping to have a move in date sometime in February, but who knows really. Eventually it will be done, we just have to keep pushing ourselves to that finish line. After that you will find us on the porch with a cocktail in hand for the next year.

It's starting to look like a house now

January 6th was the year anniversary of The Crap Shack. This process has definitely taken longer than we expected, but it is so worth it. We are doing all the work ourselves, and designing the house the way we want. We really haven't had to settle for anything we thought was sub par. After all if the rebuilding of your house is going to take a year, you might as well make it what you want it to be.

Things are really shaping up at the Crap Shack. Cabinets are going in, as well as tile in the bathroom. It's really nice to finally be able to put all this stuff we've been collecting over the past year in to the house. Some things are not going to work. You see, this house been a constantly evolving plan. Things we bought in the beginning don't work now, or since the plan has changed the size of something may be wrong. For instance we bought a microwave/range hood combo in the very beginning, now that we have changed our kitchen plan, now it won't work. On the upside we now found a chimney style range hood that will be more aesthetically pleasing. It will all work out in the end, and I guess we will have some stuff to sell when all is said and done.

The kitchen is turning out beautiful, it's really hard to get a good picture at this point. We have set it up in two sections. The red section is the bar area, and the blue section is the kitchen area. It looks amazing in person, and we think we have finally picken out the right tile for the floor.

The bathroom is well on the way. I got the shower tiled, for the most part. Since we decided to go a little taller than expected, I ran out of bullnose pieces to finish the edges. Now I have to wait for them to come in to the tile store. So tomorrow I will move on to the bathroom floor. After that is done, we can set the cabinets and add the plumbing fixtures! Then we will finally have a working bathroom!

All in all, I am extremely pleased in how everything is turning out. I never expected it to be so lovely.

Now for pictures...

The kitchen cabinets are going in.
(and yes we have red and blue cabinets)
